John R. Hicks (1904 - 1989)
Premiu Nobel 1972
Sir John Richard Hicks, economist britanic, a
obtinut Premiul Nobel in Economie in 1972, impartindu-l cu K.J. Arrow, "pentru
contributiile sale pioniere la teoria echilibrului economic general si la teoria
bunastarii".
Hicks este una din figurile cele mai importante
ale gandirii economice a secolului XX. A fost insurat cu, fiica lui Beatrice
si Sidney Webb.
Licentiat la Oxford, a fost profesor la London
School of Economics (1926-1935) si apoi la Universitatile din Cambridge, Manchester
si Oxford.
Urmas al lui Walras
si Pareto,
aplica tehnica curbelor
de indiferenta a bunurilor, reconvertind astfel teoria cererii.
Poate aporturile sale cele mai cunoscute au fost
articolul din 1937 publicat in revista Econometrica: "Mr Keynes
and the Classics: A suggested interpretation". In acesta el a incercat un
efort de conciliere a gandirii lui Keynes,
a carui opera fundamentala de-abia se publicase, cu modelele clasice ale
echilibrului. Din aceasta a rezultat un model, psterior cunoscut ca modelul
Hicks-Hansen sau curbele
IS-LM.
