RESUMEN

La deserción de los estudios universitarios, es una situación social que se genera con mucha frecuencia en la Educación Superior internacional. Son diversas las acusas que lo provocan según señalan diferentes estudios. Entre ellas resultan recurrentes dificultades de índole económico, poco interés de los estudiantes por el estudio, ambiente familiar no proclive a incentivar la formación a ese nivel entre otros. Pero, en tiempos de pandemia provocada por Covid-19 esta situación toma otro carácter.  El objetivo de la presente contribución radica en la identificación y análisis del comportamiento de los efectos de la pandemia sobre la deserción escolar en la Facultad de Ingeniería Agrícola en la Universidad Técnica de Manabí. Para ello, se realiza el análisis cualitativo con apoyo estadístico de las deserciones producidas en el periodo de los años 2017-2020, y se introducen instrumentos como entrevistas con estudiantes que abandonan sus estudios. Se brinda una serie de datos comparativos y algunas reflexiones que se sirven a la toma de decisiones que pueden ser valiosas no solo a la facultad y Universidad, sino a las instituciones de Educación superior.

ABSTRACT

The desertion of university studies is a social situation that is generated very frequently in international higher education. They are diverse accusations that provoke it as they point out different studies. Among them are recurrent difficulties of economic nature, little interest of students by the study, a family environment does not prone to encourage training at that level among others. But, in times of pandemic caused by Covid-19 this situation takes another character. The objective of this contribution lies in the identification and analysis of the behavior of the effects of the pandemic on school dropout at the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering at the Manabí Technical University. For this, qualitative analysis with statistical support from the desertions produced in the period of the years 2017-2020 is carried out, and instruments are introduced as interviews with students who abandon their studies. A series of comparative data is provided and some reflections that are served to make decisions that can be valuable not only to the faculty and university, but higher education institutions.
