The main objective of this thesis: is to analyze the impact of the institutional transformations of the State and the market in the industrial sector. Since beginning the China’s Popular Republic until the ending of the twentieth century. This work has been divided, for its analysis, in two periods: Pre-reform and Reform at the light of the “neo institutionalism” theory, I show that the institutional arrangements had a determining influence in the backward or advance in the Chinese industrial sector. The general conclusions are:

• During the pre-reform the States and its institutions played an hegemonic role, meanwhile the market institutions played a marginal role. For this the industrialization advance was limited.

• During the reform the State and Market played a complementary role. Due to the participation of both institutions, the China’s industrial advance has been more consistent and successful.

Resumen

El objetivo principal de la presente tesis es el de analizar el impacto de las transformaciones institucionales del Estado y del mercado en el sector industrial. Desde el surgimiento de la República Popular de China hasta fines del siglo XX. El trabajo está dividido para su análisis en dos periodos: la Prerreforma y la Reforma. A la luz de la teoría Institucional muestro como los arreglos institucionales han tenido una influencia determinante en el retroceso o avance en el sector industrial de China. Las principales conclusiones son las siguientes:

 Durante la prerreforma el Estado y sus instituciones jugaron un rol hegemónico, mientras tanto, las instituciones de mercado jugaron solo un rol marginal. En razón de lo anterior el avance en la industrialización fue limitado.

 Durante la reforma el Estado y el Mercado jugaron un rol complementario. Debido a la participación de ambas instituciones el avance industrial en China fue más consistente y exitoso.
