Resumen

     El artículo aborda, desde las críticas de teóricos y académicos (Boullón, 1985; Jiménez, 1990; Molina, 1991; Jafari, 1994, 2005; Panosso, 2007;  Muñoz de Escalona, 2011; Pérez, 2012; Moscoso y  Comparato, 2014, entre otros), el problema que representa la débil conceptualización e investigación en la formación de profesionales en turismo en instituciones de educación superior. En ese contexto el estudio pretende, en el caso específico de la Escuela de Turismo de la Universidad de Oriente (EHT-UDO), comparar a partir de una prueba estandarizada, el conocimiento sobre cuatro aspectos, considerados por los investigadores, fundamentales en un curso de Teoría Turística; adicionalmente, se  pretende, contextualizar la investigación y sus  resultados en los discursos sobre la problemática planteada. La investigación, de naturaleza cuantitativa, se basa en un diseño de modalidad “comparativa de caso de fuente mixta” (Hurtado, 1998). Las fuentes de información la constituyeron el resultado de la prueba aplicada a 49 estudiantes y el acopio de planteamientos teóricos sobre la temática y resultados de investigaciones previas. Los resultados, se interpretaron utilizando medidas estadísticas descriptivas y gráficas de caja; pero, en una visión metodológica abierta, se contextualizan y complementan en el análisis de contenido de  discursos e investigaciones realizadas en la EHT -UDO. Los resultados permiten establecer tres conclusiones: 1) En ambos grupos no existe un “conocimiento sólido” sobre Teoría del Turismo  2) Se verifica que existen algunas diferencias significativas entre los grupos. 3) La problemática planteada por especialistas y teóricos a nivel internacional, también se evidencia en la EHT-UDO.

LEVELS OF KNOWLEDGE ON TOURIST THEORY IN PARTICIPANTS OF TOURISM PROGRAMS IN UNIVERSITY INSTITUTIONS

Abstract

     The article deals with criticism from theoreticians and scholars (Boullón, 1985, Jiménez, 1990, Molina, 1991, Jafari, 1994, 2005, Panosso, 2007, Muñoz de Escalona, 2011, Pérez, 2012; Moscoso and Comparato, 2014, among others), who debate the weak conceptualization and research in the training of professionals. in tourism in institutions of higher education . In this context, the study intends, in the specific case of the Tourism School of the Universidad de Oriente (EHT-UDO), to compare based on a standardized test, knowledge about four aspects, considered by fundamental researchers, in a course in tourism theory; additionally, it is intended to contextualize the research and its results in the discourses on the issues raised. The research, of a quantitative nature, is based on a "comparative case of mixed source" modality design (Hurtado, 1998). The sources of information were the result of the test applied to 49 students and the collection of theoretical approaches on the subject and results of previous research. The results were interpreted using descriptive statistical measures and cash graphs; but, in an open methodological vision, they are contextualized and complemented in the content analysis of speeches and research carried out in the EHT-UDO. The results allow to establish three conclusions: 1) In both groups there is no "solid knowledge" about Theory of Tourism 2) It is verified that there are some significant differences between the groups. 3) The problems posed by specialists and theorists are also evident in the EHT-UDO.
