RESUMEN
El hecho de envejecer –salvo que se sufra de una enfermedad catalogada como catastrófica o degenerativa- no debe significar la pérdida de oportunidades de realizar diversos tipos de actividades, especialmente recreativas. Al contrario, para la mayoría de culturas, llegar a una edad adulta es sinónimo de alcanzar cierto grado de sabiduría, por las experiencias acumuladas en el transcurso de la vida.

Sin embargo, la situación de los adultos mayores no es del todo buena: existe preocupación por parte de organismos Internacionales (como la Organización Mundial de la Salud, o la Organización Panamericana de la Salud) que están dando la voz de alerta respecto a esta situación: muchas personas adultas mayores viven en condiciones de pobreza, mal alimentados o sin cobertura de salud. Ambos organismos insisten ante los líderes mundiales que se deben crear políticas de cuidado, protección y apoyo a este grupo.

De esta forma, en algunos países del mundo –y en Ecuador no es la excepción- las personas adultas mayores tienen algunos derechos, lo que les permite, aun más, el acceso a diferentes programas, actividades o distracciones, buscando siempre la comodidad y el disfrute de sus años de jubilación.

El presente caso de estudio muestra precisamente una de estas actividades, relacionada con un viaje turístico desde la ciudad de Guayaquil, provincia del Guayas, hasta la ciudad de Cuenca, provincia del Azuay, en la República del Ecuador. Este viaje tiene la particularidad de ser organizado por los propios adultos mayores, buscando nuevas actividades de esparcimiento adecuados para las limitaciones propias de la edad.

El caso es presentado con una breve introducción del tema de la situación de los adultos mayores, luego continúa con las preguntas y objetivos de la investigación, seguido de un marco teórico, la presentación del caso y, finalmente, las conclusiones del mismo.

ABSTRACT
The fact of aging - unless you suffer from a disease classified as catastrophic or degenerative - must not mean the loss of opportunities for performing various types of activities, especially recreational. On the contrary, for the majority of cultures, to arrive at a adulthood is synonym to achieve a degree of wisdom, by the experiences accumulated in the course of life.

However, the situation of older adults is not all good: there are concerns on the part of international agencies (such as the World Health Organization, or the Pan American Health Organization) that they are giving voice to alert with regard to this situation: many elderly individuals living in conditions of poverty, ill-fed or without health coverage. Both agencies insist to the world leaders that you need to create policies for the care, protection and support to this group.

In this way, in some countries of the world - and in Ecuador is no exception - older adults have some rights, allowing them to, even more, the access to different programs, activities or distractions, always seeking the comfort and the enjoyment of their retirement years.

This case study shows precisely one of these activities, related to a tourist trip from the city of Guayaquil, Guayas province, until the city of Cuenca, Azuay province, in the Republic of Ecuador. This journey has the particularity of being organized by the own older adults, searching for new recreational activities suitable for the inherent limitations of the age.

The case is presented with a brief introduction to the subject of the situation of older adults, and then it continues with the questions and objectives of the investigation, followed by a theoretical framework, the presentation of the case and, finally, the conclusions.
