CALIDAD DE LAS AGUAS EN RÍOS QUE DESEMBOCAN EN PLAYAS TURÍSTICAS. ESTUDIO DE CASO EN REPÚBLICA DOMINICANA

RESUMEN

El turismo de sol y playa en modalidad Todo Incluido es una de las principales actividades socioeconómicas de la República Dominicana. La contaminación del agua es un factor determinante para la salud de las comunidades locales y de los turistas que visitan las playas del país. En este sentido, el objetivo de esta investigación es doble: por un lado, identificar las características de la calidad de las aguas de los ríos que desembocan en las playas de Puerto Plata y, por otro lado, analizar como afecta la calidad de las aguas de los ríos que desembocan en las áreas costeras de Puerto Plata al desarrollo de la actividad turística. Puerto Plata es el segundo destino de sol y playa de la República Dominicana. Se ha utilizado la metodología de aplicación del Índice de Calidad de Agua (ICA) para analizar la calidad de las aguas de los dos ríos que desembocan en las playas turísticas de Puerto Plata: río Muñoz y río San Marcos. Los datos se recolectan utilizando equipos especializados, se analizan en el programa SPSS y Excel. Los resultados indican que el ICA de las aguas de los ríos que desembocan en las playas turísticas de Puerto Plata es mala. Estos resultados pueden afectar, a corto plazo, al desarrollo del turismo y al comportamiento de la demanda que recibe este destino turístico.

QUALITY OF THE WATERS IN RIVERS THAT FLOWER INTO TOURIST BEACHES. CASE STUDY IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

ABSTRACT

All-Inclusive sun and beach tourism is one of the main socioeconomic activities in the Dominican Republic. Water pollution is a determining factor for the health of local communities and tourists who visit the country's beaches. In this sense, the objective of this research is twofold: on the one hand, to identify the characteristics of the water quality of the rivers that flow into the beaches of Puerto Plata and, on the other hand, to analyze how it affects the quality of the waters. of the rivers that flow into the coastal areas of Puerto Plata to the development of tourist activity. Puerto Plata is the second sun and beach destination in the Dominican Republic. The methodology of applying the Water Quality Index (WQI) has been used to analyze the quality of the waters of the two rivers that flow into the tourist beaches of Puerto Plata: the Muñoz River and the San Marcos River. The data is collected using specialized equipment, analyzed in the SPSS program and Excel. The results indicate that the WQI of the waters of the rivers that flow into the tourist beaches of Puerto Plata is bad. These results may affect, in the short term, the development of tourism and the behavior of the demand received by this tourist destination.
