RESUMEN
El propósito de este estudio fue identificar los factores que propician el fenómeno de la deserción en las Instituciones de Educación Superior (IES). Se realizó una investigación cualitativa (análisis documental) la cual consistió en el análisis de diversas fuentes de información con el objetivo de encontrar, organizar y analizar información relacionado con la deserción escolar a nivel superior. Los resultados obtenidos fueron: conocer el índice de deserción en las IES; identificar las asignaturas que presentan mayor índice de reprobación; conocer los factores de deserción escolar en las IES y describir las estrategias para abatir la deserción escolar en las IES. La deserción es un fenómeno multicausal, es necesario estudiarlo desde las diversas perspectivas para conocer su naturaleza.

ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to identify the factors that promote the phenomenon of atertion in Highe r Education Institutions (IES). A qualitative research (documentary analysis) was carried out, which consisted of the analysis of various sources of information with the objective of finding, organizing and analyzing information related to school dropout at the higher education level. The results obtained were: to know the dropout rate in the IES; to identify the subjects with the highest failure rate; to know the factors of school dropout in the IES; and to describe the strategies to reduce school dropout in the IES. Dropout is a multicausal phenomenon, it is necessary to study it from the various perspectives to know its nature.
