RESUMEN
La educación ambiental debe convertirse en una modalidad de la educación en valores, aspecto de relevancia en la universidad cubana, porque requieren formar una conciencia ética, estética, política ideológica, económica, jurídica y otras que propendan a la orientación transdisciplinar de la educación para la protección del medioambiente. El futuro del planeta depende del hombre: o vivir controlando la naturaleza destruyendo el medio ambiente, y con el futuro de su propia existencia o lograr la armonía con los principios ecológicos. Es una decisión compleja, aunque la mayoría de la humanidad va convenciéndose cada día de que tenemos que desarrollar una conciencia ecológica; aunque para ellos debamos de renunciar a prácticas de vida y consumo que nos han hecho cada día más vulnerable. Enfrentar estos problemas que afectan al medio ambiente, hace necesaria la educación de los estudiantes universitarios, los cuales poseen conocimientos limitados al respecto, por lo que es necesario descubrir la pertinencia de la ciencia para la vida cotidiana, lo que contribuye a concientizar los problemas sociales de las ciencias y a contextualizar sus contenidos, promoviendo la participación responsable en el cuidado del medio ambiente. A partir del análisis investigativo de las principales carencias que en este sentido se aprecian en los estudiantes de Licenciatura en Historia de la Universidad de Holguín, los autores argumentan la necesidad de formar en ellos los principios de una sólida educación para la protección del medioambiente, que se caracterice por una visión transdisciplinar de su currículo y el uso de diversos recursos pedagógicos.

ABSTRACT
Environmental education must become a modality of education in values, an aspect of relevance in the Cuban university, because they require forming an ethical, aesthetic, ideological, economic, legal and other political conscience that tend to the trans disciplinary orientation of education for the protection of the environment. The future of the planet depends on man: either live controlling nature, destroying the environment, and with the future of its own existence or achieving harmony with ecological principles It is a complex decision, although the majority of humanity is convinced every day that we have to develop an ecological conscience; although for them we must renounce life and consumption practices that have made us more vulnerable every day. Facing these problems that affect the environment, requires the education of university students, who have limited knowledge in this regard, so it is necessary to discover the relevance of science for daily life, which contributes to raising awareness of social problems of science and to contextualize its contents by promoting responsible participation in caring for the environment. Based on the investigative analysis of the main deficiencies that in this sense are seen in the students of the History career at the University of Holguín, the authors argue the need to train in them the principles of a solid education for the protection of the environment, which It is characterized by a trans disciplinary vision of its curriculum and the use of various pedagogical resources.
