Resumen
El envejecimiento poblacional es un fenómeno social que aumenta cada día en la sociedad cubana e internacional actual; resulta entonces indiscutible la necesidad de garantizar el bienestar social de este grupo etario atendiendo a sus necesidades biopsicosociales, de manera que se logre que este último período de la vida, que comprende ya un alto por ciento de la población mundial, se viva con la calidad merecida. La importancia que poseen las familias y las comunidades como los entornos en los cuales se establece por primera vez el comportamiento saludable y donde se moldean inicialmente la cultura, los valores y las normas sociales resulta innegable, sobre todo en aspectos relacionados con los adultos mayores como grupo poblacional vulnerable que requiere una atención especial. Corresponde entonces a las ciencias sociales centrar la atención en la capacitación de cuidadores familiares como punto de partida para optimizar la calidad de vida tanto del anciano como del familiar a cargo de su cuidado.

Abstract.
Population aging is a social phenomenon that increases every day in today's Cuban and international society; The need to guarantee the social well-being of this age group is therefore indisputable, attending to their biopsychosocial needs, so that this last period of life, which already comprises a high percentage of the world population, is lived with the quality deserved. The importance of families and communities as the environments in which healthy behavior is established for the first time and where culture, values and social norms are initially shaped is undeniable, especially in aspects related to older adults such as vulnerable population group that requires special attention. It is then up to the social sciences to focus attention on the training of family caregivers as a starting point to optimize the quality of life of both the elderly and the family in charge of their care.
