RESUMEN
El artículo reflexiona sobre las representaciones sociales de la vejez que poseen jóvenes y adultos mayores de América Latina y el Caribe. Se utiliza para el análisis una revisión del estado del arte sobre el tema. Se recurrió a una búsqueda sistematizada de artículos con validación científica en bases de datos de revistas indexadas reconocidas en ciencias sociales. Los criterios de inclusión fueron estudios donde se indentificaran las representaciones sociales de la vejez que poseen jóvenes y adultos mayores en países como Chile, Colombia, Brasil, México y Cuba. Los pricipales resultados destacan que las representaciones sociales sobre la vejez en estos grupos etarios están marcadas por aspectos físicos, psicológicos y sociales. Se concluye con la idea de que predominan las representaciones sociales negativas sobre esta etapa de la vida tanto en jóvenes como en adultos mayores, resaltando que en la vejez se pierden los atributos positivos de la vida.

SOCIAL REPRESENTATIONS OF OLD AGE IN LATIN AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN
ABSTRACT
The article reflects on the social representations of old age that young people and older adults in Latin America and the Caribbean have. A review of the state of the art on the subject is used for the analysis. A systematic search for articles with scientific validation was used in databases of recognized indexed journals in the social sciences. The inclusion criteria were studies where the social representations of old age that young people and older adults have in countries such as Chile, Colombia, Brazil, Mexico and Cuba were identified. The main results highlight that the social representations about old age in these age groups are marked by physical, psychological and social aspects. It concludes with the idea that negative social representations of this stage of life predominate both in young people and in older adults, highlighting that in old age the positive attributes of life are lost.
