Resumen

     Cuando en 2017 se ha celebrado el encuentro del Gexel, en la Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, se subrayó el poco interés que hubo hacia el exilio republicano en Argelia, en comparación con lo realizado en otros países; basándome en esta reflexión, me propongo regresar sobre un pasado común a nuestros dos países y por la misma ocasión, tratar de paliar una carencia que no se entiende ya que  alrededor de 50 000 refugiados llegaron a Argelia  después de la Guerra Civil Española y solo muy pocos han dejado constancia de lo vivido en nuestras tierras. Las trabas políticas son las causas fundamentales de este mutismo, pero con el advenimiento de nuevas medidas legales, las lenguas se desataron. Mi finalidad en este artículo es una aproximación a la literatura testimonial y de campos, para saber qué impacto ha podido tener la Recuperación de la Memoria Histórica en la reanimación de las confidencias de los exiliados. Sin ser demasiado exhaustiva, recordaré los principales protagonistas del exilio que publicaron sus memorias y testimonios en su momento y recopilaré lo que unos descendientes hicieron como aporte cierto a la recuperación de la memoria de sus padres o abuelos en estos últimos decenios. Este escrito tiene como objetivo la evaluación del estado de la memoria del exilio, por un análisis cuantitativo y sobre todo sintético del material que se ha publicado, cuya meta es ayudar a un reconocimiento y rendir homenaje a una franja de la sociedad que padeció largo tiempo de silencios y malentendidos, con una especial atención a los exiliados republicanos en tierras argelinas.

THE TRACE OF THE REPUBLICAN EXILE IN ALGERIA: TESTIMONIES AND MEMORIES

Abstract

     During the Gexel meeting held in 2017 at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, we must stress that there was very little interest in the republican exile in Algeria comparing to what was achieved in other countries. Based on this reflection, I decided to put forward a forgotten past which is common to our two countries and at the same time, try to fill this gap since approximately 50,000 refugees arrived in Algeria after the Spanish civil war and only very few of them have made known what they had experienced on our land. Political constraints are the main reason for this silence, but with the new legal measures, tongues are finally starting to loosen. Without being too exhaustive, I'll give an overview of the main exiled protagonists who published their memoirs and testimonials compiled to what some descendants have brought as a real contribution to the recovery of the memory of their parents or grandparents. I am aiming with this article, to bring a approach of literature of testimony and camps in order to emphasize the impact that the recovery of historical memory has had on the possibilty of exiles to make confidences. Without being too exhaustive, I will recall the main actors of the exile who published their memoirs and their testimonies during their lifetime. I will make a compilation of what the descendants have brought to the memory of recovery of their fathers or grandfathers in the recent decades. My work aims to assess the state of memory of exile by a quantitative and above all synthetic analysis of the existing material in order to help recognition and to pay tribute to a fringe of society that suffered from silence and misunderstanding with particular attention to Republican exiles in Algerian lands.
