William Vickrey (1914 - 1996)
Premiu Nobel 1996
Economist nordamerican, profesor la Columbia University din New York, a obtinut Premiul Nobel de economie in 1996, impartit cu James A. Mirrlees pentru fundamentalele sale contributii la teoria economica a stimulentelor cu informatii asimetrice. A murit trei zile dupa ce a aflat ca i s-a acordat Premiul Nobel.
William Vickrey s-a nascut in Victoria, British Columbia (Canada). A studiat la Universitatile din Yale si Columbia, unde obtine doctoratul in 1947 cu o teza de 496 de pagini denumita "Agenda for Progressive Taxation". De atunci a lucrat la Columbia University.
