Philip H. Wicksteed, 1844-1927
Este un economist britanic. A fost cativa ani pastor al bisericii unitare si a
scris despre literatura, teologie si filozofie. Analizeaza si explica opera lui
Comte, Santo Tomás de Aquino, Aristóteles, Ibsen si multi altii.
Apartenenta sa la Societatea Fabiana
ii trezeste interesul pentru economie. Primeste influenta lui Jevons
si a scolii austriace. A scris despre teoria alegerii economice si atribuirii
resurselor rare. Cea mai cunoscuta contributie a sa este folosita in teorema lui
Euler pentru a propune ca distributia in functie de principiul productivitatii
marginale epuizeaza produsul total. Se considera ca el a fost cel care i-a
indepartat pe fabiani de marxisti.
Pentru Wicksteed nu exista
diferenta intre aspectele economice ale vietii umane si "alte" aspecte.
I-a invitat pe economistii care aveau o ampla viziune asupra campului sau de
studiu, permitand si compatibilizand sentimentele umanitare, privirea critica si
simtul comun.
