James S. Duesenberry, 1918-

James Duesenberry, s-a nascut la Princeton, WV, a studiat si a obtinut doctoratul la Universitatea din Michigan. A fost profesor la Harvard si MIT. Astazi este profesor emerit al banilor si bancii in cadrul Departamentului de economie al Universitatii Harvard.

In 1949 a propus o functie de consum de tip keynesian argumentand ca modul de comportare al consumului creaza mediu si spune ca indivizii isi cresc consumul odata cu cresterea venitului dar ca intampina dificultati la reducerea consumului in aceeasi proportie cand venitul i se diminueaza.

Posterior, in 1958,  si folosind un rationament similar, face o contributie acceleratorului si teoriei keynesiane a ciclurilor. Pentru Duesenberry, investitia depinde de nivelurile istorice atinse de venit si capital.
