Premio Nobel 1994
Economista alemán, nacido en Breslau (actualmente Wroclaw, en Polonia). Obtiene el Premio Nobel de EconomÃa en 1994, compartido con John C. Harsanyi y John F. Nash y por sus pioneros análisis del equilibrio en la teorÃa de los juegos no cooperativos.
Obtiene la licenciatura en matemáticas en la Johann- Wolfgang- Goethe Universität de Frankfurt. Trabaja durante diez años como profesor ayudante en la Universidad de Frankfurt, en la que obtiene su doctorado en 1961. En 1969 entra como profesor de economÃa en la Universidad libre de BerlÃn y en 1972 se traslada al Instituto de EconomÃa Matemática de la Universidad de Bielefield. Desde 1984 es profesor en la Rheinische Friedrich- Wilhelms- Universität de Bonn.
La aportación principal de Selten se publica en 1965, cuando define los conceptos de decisiones racionales e irracionales en la predicción del resultado de juegos no cooperativos. También refina el concepto de equilibrio de Nash para analizar la dinámica de la interacción de estrategias.
